The 7 - 8 yr. old Packers opened the Flag Football season with a big win Tuesday night. The Packers seized control right from the start and didn't let up until the final whistle. The Packers won the toss and elected to be on offense first, on the first snap of the game Wayne Beard ran a pitch left and outraced all the Bear defenders 45 yds. to the end zone. PAT failed for a score of 6-0. The Packer defense held the Bears on 4 straight plays, with Parker Eley knocking down a key pass play, giving the ball back to the offense. On the third play after regaining possession, Will Greder burst up the right side and went 45 yds. for the Packers 2nd score of the night, PAT failed, score 12-0. After a set of possessions by each team yielded nothing the Bears mounted a good drive into Packer territory only to have the drive end on an interception by Garret Tiarks. On the offenses next drive Devin Simpson ran right up the gut and appeared to be stopped but broke free and tore down the field for an apparent score. Unfortunately the play was called back due to an inadvertent whistle from the ref. In the second half Garret Tiarks took a short pass from Bryce Niemeyer to the right and weaved through the Bear defenders and finally broke into the open and outraced the safety 45 yds. for a 18-0 Packer lead. The PAT was good on a nice throw from Will Greder to Matthew Hill. Score 19-0.
The Bears found the end zone on the next drive to make the score 19-6, PAT failed. The Packers answered right back after losing 4 yards when Wayne Beard seeing no room to run on the right side quickly reversed his field, narrowly avoiding a safety, and sprinted down the left side for the final score of the game, PAT failed making it 25-6. The Bears mounted one last charge and drove the ball down the field but were held out of the end zone by a good effort from the Packers as time expired. The young Packers play next, Oct. 2nd @7:00 on Field 2.
