3rd and 4th Baseball competes in year-end tourney

The Coaches split the 3rd and 4th baseball team into 2 equal teams of 10 players each and both had opening round games on Thursday night. After a day of heavy rains and storms in the area, the night gave way to perfect playing conditions and the fields in Nevada were in incredible condition. CN1 vs. Nevada 1 - Luck of the draw had the CN1 facing one of the better teams in the tourney in the first round. It was a great baseball game if you like pitching and timely defense. Both teams battled and CN1 came up on the short end this time as Nevada 1 won 2-1.
Nevada 1 got out of the gate quickly getting 4 of their 5 hits for the game in the 1st inning and scoring both runs in the 1st, only one of them earned. Brady Stoeffler took the mound to start for the Royals, and battled through some early control issues and 2 errors by his defense, to pitch 3 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 runs, and struck out 5 batters. Grant Tiarks came on in the 4th and pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 2 batters. Defensively. Grant Tiarks had 2 putouts on consecutive plays as he caught a pop-up at first and then made a nice stop on a hot smash to his right and raced to the bag for the out. Brady Stoeffler had 2 putouts for the game, 1 on a fly ball to him at pitcher and the 2nd on an alert play while catching when he popped up out of his crouch to snare a foul ball behind the plate. The offense struggled on the night as only 4 balls were put in play all night for the Royals -- most of the credit for that goes to the starting Nevada 1 pitcher as he pitched with great control and good velocity in keeping the Royal bats quiet. On the night, Garret Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored and Grant Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single and a RBI. CN1 received a forfeit in their next game and now advance to play on Monday night at 6:30. CN2 vs. Nevada 4 - Offense was not a struggle in CN2's first game of the tourney as the Royals belted out 17 hits and scored 13 runs in their 13-0 victory. Jared Roberts was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI on a single and a double, Steven Cutler went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's, Tanner Clatt went 3 for 3 with a single, a double and a triple, scored 3 runs and had 1 RBI, Hunter Beard went 3 for 3 with a single, a double, and a triple, scored 2 runs and had a RBI. Wayne Beard went 3 for 3 on a double and 2 singles, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's, Elliot Morgan went 1 for 3 with a single, Jacob Clatt, playing up from T-Ball in his first game versus live pitching, was 1 for 3 with a line drive double and a RBI, Tyler Helgeland was 1 for 2 with a single and a RBI and also reached base on a Hit-By-Pitch. Chase Carlson was 1 for 2 on a single and had a run scored. Pitching and defense were in fine form for the CN2 squad as Tanner Clatt took the mound to start and pitched 3 innings allowing 2 hits, 0 runs and struck out 7 batters. Steven Cutler came on in the 4th and allowed 2 hits, 0 runs and struck out 4 in 2 innings of work. Elliot Morgan made a nice catch for a put out on a high pop-up, Hunter Beard made a good catch on a line drive smash to him for a put out, and Wayne Beard made the play of the night catching a short pop-up to second for a put out and then wheeling to first to pick off the runner who had strayed to far from the bag on the pop up for an assist on the inning-ending double play. Tanner Clatt made a veteran 1st baseman play on the pop-up by rolling in behind the runner at 1st and receiving the throw from Wayne for a putout. CN2 advances to play Nevada2 at 5:00 on Monday.
