The games scheduled for Monday night for 3rd and 4th Baseball CN1 and CN2 have been changed to Tuesday night at the same times, 5:00 for CN2 and 6:30 for CN1. The storms that rolled through on Friday night caused the cancellation of games and a shuffling of the schedule.

3rd and 4th Baseball competes in year-end tourney

The Coaches split the 3rd and 4th baseball team into 2 equal teams of 10 players each and both had opening round games on Thursday night. After a day of heavy rains and storms in the area, the night gave way to perfect playing conditions and the fields in Nevada were in incredible condition. CN1 vs. Nevada 1 - Luck of the draw had the CN1 facing one of the better teams in the tourney in the first round. It was a great baseball game if you like pitching and timely defense. Both teams battled and CN1 came up on the short end this time as Nevada 1 won 2-1.
Nevada 1 got out of the gate quickly getting 4 of their 5 hits for the game in the 1st inning and scoring both runs in the 1st, only one of them earned. Brady Stoeffler took the mound to start for the Royals, and battled through some early control issues and 2 errors by his defense, to pitch 3 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 2 runs, and struck out 5 batters. Grant Tiarks came on in the 4th and pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 2 batters. Defensively. Grant Tiarks had 2 putouts on consecutive plays as he caught a pop-up at first and then made a nice stop on a hot smash to his right and raced to the bag for the out. Brady Stoeffler had 2 putouts for the game, 1 on a fly ball to him at pitcher and the 2nd on an alert play while catching when he popped up out of his crouch to snare a foul ball behind the plate. The offense struggled on the night as only 4 balls were put in play all night for the Royals -- most of the credit for that goes to the starting Nevada 1 pitcher as he pitched with great control and good velocity in keeping the Royal bats quiet. On the night, Garret Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored and Grant Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single and a RBI. CN1 received a forfeit in their next game and now advance to play on Monday night at 6:30. CN2 vs. Nevada 4 - Offense was not a struggle in CN2's first game of the tourney as the Royals belted out 17 hits and scored 13 runs in their 13-0 victory. Jared Roberts was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI on a single and a double, Steven Cutler went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's, Tanner Clatt went 3 for 3 with a single, a double and a triple, scored 3 runs and had 1 RBI, Hunter Beard went 3 for 3 with a single, a double, and a triple, scored 2 runs and had a RBI. Wayne Beard went 3 for 3 on a double and 2 singles, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI's, Elliot Morgan went 1 for 3 with a single, Jacob Clatt, playing up from T-Ball in his first game versus live pitching, was 1 for 3 with a line drive double and a RBI, Tyler Helgeland was 1 for 2 with a single and a RBI and also reached base on a Hit-By-Pitch. Chase Carlson was 1 for 2 on a single and had a run scored. Pitching and defense were in fine form for the CN2 squad as Tanner Clatt took the mound to start and pitched 3 innings allowing 2 hits, 0 runs and struck out 7 batters. Steven Cutler came on in the 4th and allowed 2 hits, 0 runs and struck out 4 in 2 innings of work. Elliot Morgan made a nice catch for a put out on a high pop-up, Hunter Beard made a good catch on a line drive smash to him for a put out, and Wayne Beard made the play of the night catching a short pop-up to second for a put out and then wheeling to first to pick off the runner who had strayed to far from the bag on the pop up for an assist on the inning-ending double play. Tanner Clatt made a veteran 1st baseman play on the pop-up by rolling in behind the runner at 1st and receiving the throw from Wayne for a putout. CN2 advances to play Nevada2 at 5:00 on Monday.

3rd and 4th Baseball important notes

Remember there is no game Monday night, they have been cancelled due to scheduling issues from the Nevada teams. We will practice on Wednesday night in Colo at 6:00 at the Casey's Field (this is a contradiction to what I said on Friday, sorry for the confusion!) I will let everyone know ASAP when both teams will play in the tournament, I haven't heard yet.

3rd and 4th baseball split a doubleheader with Nevada 1

The Royals finished up the regular season on Friday night with a pair of games against Nevada 1. Nevada 1 was filling in for Nevada 2 in one game as Nevada 2, 3 , and 4 couldn't find in their schedules time to make-up rain-out games. So the Royals regular season ended with 2 games not being rescheduled. The Royals split the doulbeheader with Nevada 1 winning the first contest 5-1 and losing the second 2-4. The Royals end an outstanding the regular season at 9-2-1. In game one vs. Nevada1 - Great Pitching, some solid defense and some timely hitting got the win for the royals in game 1 5-1. Garret Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single and defensively had a nice catch on a pop-up and good assist on a 4-3 putout. Grant Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single and had 2 putouts defensively, Brady Stoeffler was 2 for 2 with a run scored on a double and a single, he had a nice assist on a 1-3 putout and pitched 3 very strong innings, facing 9 batters, allowing 0 runs, 0 hits and had 6 strikeouts, Hunter Beard continued his hot bat with a 2 for 2 night on a single and a Home run, scored a run and had 2 RBI's, Hunter also had 2 unassisted putouts at 1st base. Trenton Erickson was 1 for 2 with a single and a run scored, Nic Price reached base on a Hit by pitch and scored a run, Austin Britten came up big with a 1 for 1 night lacing a triple to right field, scoring a run and hd 2 RBI's, and Kevin Hapes went 1 for 1 with a single and a RBI. Game 2 vs. Nevada 1 - Nevada 1 was the home team as agreed to by coaches since they were actually playing an extra game even though it was technically a make-up of a home game for the Royals. Game 2 was an even contest between the teams except for a little defensive lapse by the Royals that allowed 2 unearned runs to cross the plate in the 2nd inning. Steven Cutler was 1 for 2 with a single and a run scored, Steven also made the play of the night as he played a run down situation like a seasoned pro as the Royals had a Nevada1 player hung up between 2nd and 3rd and a bobbled throw at 2nd looked like it would enable the nevada1 runner to advance to 3rd but a heads-up Steven Cutler had rolled around in behind the run down and was positioned perfectly at 3rd and applied the tag to the Nevada runner on a 5-4-5-4-6 putout. Hunter Beard again using a hot bat was 2 for 2 with a run scored and 2 RBI's on a single and a Home Run, Tyler Anthony was 1 for 2 with a single, Ben Pepper was 1 for 1 with a double, Elliot Morgan also had a 1 for 1 night with a single and Brady Stoeffler was 1 for 1 with a single. Tanner Clatt took the mound to start fr the Royals and pitched 2 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 strikeouts and only 1 earned run, however the 2 unearned runs on errors by his fielders gave Tanner the loss on the night. Tyler Anthony pitcing in his season debut pitched well for the Royals in 1 inning of work allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run and had 3 strikeouts. The Royals next play in the season ending tournament on June 26th, 27th, 30th and July 1st. The Royals will field 2 teams for the tournament. Stay tuned to hear actual game times.

Royals 3rd and 4th receive pair of forfeits to improve to 8-1-1

Unfortunately playing the CM1 and CM2 teams for the third time was a little more of a let down as CM1 only had 6 kids show up to the game and CM2 had no one show up. A team must have 9 players at least to start a game so the Royals received 2 forfeits and improved their record to 8-1-1 on the year. CM1 agreed to stay and with some of our players from the 2nd game fielded a team to scrimmage and then graciously agreed to fill in for CM2 and scrimmage a 2nd game with some players from our team 1. Our highlights in game one were as follows - Steven Cutler went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 1 run scored, Tanner Clatt was 1 for 2 with a single Brady Stoeffler was 1 for 1 with a single, a sacrifice and a RBI, Parker Eley was 1 for 2 with a single, Tyler Anthony went 1 for 2 with a double and scored a run, Elliot Morgan was Hit-By-Pitch and scored a run, Chase Carlson was 1 for 1 with a single, and Trenton Erickson was 1 for 1 with a double and 2 RBI's. Also in the scrimmage Hunter Beard was 2 for 2 with a HR and a single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI's, and Grant Tiarks was 1 for 1 with a double. Ben Pepper pitched 2 innings allowing 2 hits 2 runs and had 5 strikeouts, Parker Eley came in in the 3rd and pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 0 runs and had 5 strikeouts. In the 2nd scrimmage Wayne Beard went 1 for 2 with a single and a run scored, Garret Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single, Grant Tiarks was 1 for 2 with a single and a RBI, Brady Stoeffler went 2 for 2 with a run scored and 2 RBI's on a Home Run and a single, and Hunter Beard was 1 for 2 with a single. Pitching saw Hunter Beard throw 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 0 runs and had 3 strikeouts, Garret Tiarks came on in the 3rd and pitched 1 inning allowing 5 hits, 4 runs and had 2 strikeouts. Brady Stoeffler closed out the final inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, and striking out the 3 batters he faced.

Royals take 2 from Nevada!

On a picture perfect night (finally!) for baseball, the 3rd and 4th grade Royals put 2 more wins in the book to extend their record to 6-1-1. Game 1 vs. Nevada 4 - The offense came alive again for the Royals as they belted 21 hits in the game and scored 13 runs. Jared Roberts continued his hot hitting going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, and 2 RBI's with a single, a triple, and a Home Run from the lead off spot, Garret Tiarks followed with a 3 for 3 night with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI's in a 2 singles and a doubles, Grant Tiarks continued a strong top of the order going 3 for 3 with 3 doubles, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's, Brady Stoeffler filled the roll of clean-up hitter to a T going 2 for 3 on a single and a double, scoring 2 runs and "cleaning up the bases" for 3 RBI's, Tanner Clatt continued his year long hot streak at the plate with another 3 for 3 game on 2 singles and a double, 1 RBI and 1 run scored, Parker Eley had a sharp single past 2nd for a hit, Tyler Anthony's bat continues to come alive with another multi-hit performance as he went 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a double and 2 RBI's. Nic Price stepped up again with 2 for 3 night on 2 hard singles and a run scored, Kevin Hapes had a nice single, scored a run and had a RBI to round out the strong offensive showing. The 13 runs added a nice measure of relaxation for the pitchers who went out strong and finished well, Tanner Clatt took the mound and pitched 2 innings allowing only 2 hits and had 4 strikeouts, Parker Eley came on in the 3rd to pitch one strong inning allowing 1 hit and had 2 strikeouts, Brady Stoeffler closed the door on the game striking out the only 3 batters he faced. Game 2 vs Nevada 3 - Game 2 was more of a classic battle as both teams fought and clawed for every run as good defense and some timely pitching on both sides limited any big innings. The Royals were able to mount a final inning rally to secure a 3-2 victory. Garret Tiarks was 1 for 2 in the game but his hit was a lead-off triple in the bottom of the 4th and final (due to time limit) frame with the Royals trailing 1-2. Hunter Beard then came up clutch with a solid single to score the tying run from 3rd. Hunter had another great night at the plate going 2 for 2 with a Home Run and a single, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored, Grant Tiarks was next and rocketed a moon shot to deep center, but an outstanding catch by the Nevada 3 center-fielder robbed Grant of the potential game-winning RBI. Step up Steven Cutler who continued his solid hitting with a game winning double to right center field, Steven came up big again at the plate going 2 for 2 on a single and a double and the game winning RBI. Tyler Helgeland had a sharp base hit on the night and made a wonderful catch on a sky high pop-up while he was playing shortstop. Henry Elliot-Rude had another good single to deep 3rd to continue his hot hitting at the plate. Defense and pitching was good for both sides and stopped many threats. Grant Tiarks took the mound to start and a tight strike zone caused some anxious moments throughout his 2 innings. Grant battled through though and ended with 3 strikeouts, 5 hits allowed and 2 earned runs. Hunter Beard came on in the 3rd and in one inning allowed only 1 hit, 0 earned runs and had 1 strikeout. Steven Culter came in in the 4th and pitched one inning in relief earning the win, allowing 1 hit, 0 earned runs, and 3 strike-outs. The Royals play again on Wednesday night in Colo at the Casey's field. They also have a make-up game from June 12th on Friday in Zearing.

3rd & 4th Baseball offense comes to life!

The 3rd and 4th Baseball teams bats came alive in 2 games with CM. The games were played in Zearing due to flooding of the Maxwell City Park with CM still being the Home team even at an away venue. The Royals won both games, the first 5-3, and the second 5-2 to raise their record to 4-1-1 on the year. Game 1 vs. CM2 - The Royals got 11 hits in game one and scored 5 runs in some impressive hitting up and down the line-up. Garret Tiarks connected on solid single and scored a run, Grant Tiarks broke out of his hitting slump and drove a line-drive to the gap in center and touched them all for a home run, Steven Cutler had 2 sharp singles and scored a run, Hunter Beard had a good night at the plate with a single and a double, a run scored and 2 RBI's, Ben Pepper drove in a run on a good Sacrifice, Elliot Morgan had a breakout game going 2 for 2 with a double and a single and scoring a run, Austin Britten collected his first hit on the year with a single to the right side, and Henry Elliot-Rude had 2 solid singles and an RBI. On defense, one bad inning allowed 3 runs for the CM2 team otherwise the Royals had solid pitcing and defense for the game. Grant Tiarks pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 0 earned runs and had 6 strikeouts, Hunter Beard came on in the 3rd and pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, only 1 earned run and had 5 strikeouts (3 errors in the field behind him in the 4th inning cost the Royals the runs). Garret Tiarks came on in the 4th and got the Royals out of the jam, striking out the batter he faced, Garret pitched 1/3 of an inning officially as 2 base hits to start the 5th by the CM2 team brought in Steven Cutler who quelched any thoughts CM may have had as he struck out all 3 batters he faced to end the game. Game 2 vs. CM1 - The Royal bats kept rolling in game 2 as they collected 10 hits and scored 5 runs again in the 5-2 win. Jared Roberts continued his hot bat as he hit the ball all 3 times at the plate collecting 1 hit, a sharp single and a run scored, Brady Stoeffler had a big night, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's with a single and a line-drive to the gap in center for a Home run, Ben Pepper had a single and a run scored, Tyler Anthony had a big game going 2 for 2 with 2 sharp singles, Parker Eley got a solid single between short and 2nd, Tyler Helgeland had a good base hit past short and Trenton Erickson went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a run scored. Steven Cutler pitched 2 innnings to start game 2 and allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run and had 5 strikeouts, Ben Pepper came on in the 3rd, allowed 2 hits 0 runs and had 3 strikeouts before a foot injury saw him leave the mound during warm-ups before the 4th inning. Brady Stoeffler came on in relief and pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 5 batters. The Royals are back in action on Thursday night in Colo (weather and flood-free permitting)

3rd & 4th Baseball wins one, ties one in games with CM

The Royals took on 2 teams from Collins Maxwell on Wednesday Night with good results in both. Game 1 vs. CM1 - Good defense and good pitching resulted in a 0-0 draw between the 2 teams. CM1 pitchers silenced the Royals bats as the Royals only managed 1 hit on the night with Tanner Clatt collecting that hit on a single to center field. The Royals did manage to get the bat on several balls but unfortunately none found it safely for a hit. Pitching and defense kept the CM batters in check also as Tanner Clatt started the game on the mound and pitched 2 innings, scattering 3 hits amongst 4 strikeouts and 2 short pop-ups for 0 runs. Ben Pepper in his first action on the mound came in in the 3rd and allowed 1 hit, had 4 strikeouts and 0 runs in 2 innings of work. Steven Cutler preserved the tie in the 5th with a dominating 3 strikeouts vs. 3 batter performance. Game 2 vs. CM2 - game 2 saw the Royal bats finally come alive as the Royals had 8 hits and scored 5 runs in the 5-1 victory. Jared Roberts collected 2 singles on the night with hits to right center and center, Brady Stoeffler had 2 singles and scored twice, Tanner Clatt continued his srong offense with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's, Tyler Anthony had a good night at the plate with a single, a Sacrifice, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI's and Nic Price had a sharp single between 2nd and short. Brady Stoeffler took the mound for the Royals and pitched 2 good innings allowing only one hit and striking out 3, Garret Tiarks made his pitching debut with a quality start, facing 3 batters, striking out 3. Grant Tiarks came on in the 4th for one inning, faced 3 batters and struck out 1. Parker Eley closed the game for the Royals in one inning of work, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and striking out 2. The Royals are now 2-1-1 on the year with 4 games next week. Continued improvement at bat and continued strong pitching and defense should yield some good results. Note: Monday's game has been moved to Zearing because of flooding in Maxwell!

3rd and 4th Baseball goes 1-1 against Nevada teams

The season finally got started for the 3rd and 4th grade boys with a pair of games in Nevada on Monday night. The Royals split the games losing the first 0-3 and winning the second 1-0. Game 1 vs. Nevada 2- Steven Cutler, Parker Eley and Tanner Clatt shared pitching duties on the mound for the Royals in game one. Nevada 2 got on the board early scoring 2 runs on some good hitting and costly throwing errors by the Royals. Steven showed good control after some first inning, first game jitters and struck out 4 batters and allowed 1 earned run in his 2 innings of work. Parker Eley making his first ever pitching debut, pitched well striking out the first 2 batters he faced and finishing with 3 strikeouts and 1 earned run allowed in 1 inning of work. Tanner Clatt closed out the game for the Royals showing good velocity and accuracy in his work on the mound as he struck out 3 of the 4 batters he faced. The Royal bats were a little silent in game one as some good Nevada 2 pitchers controlled the game throughout. Steven Cutler with a line-drive single past second,Tanner Clatt with a sharply hit single between 2nd and short and Brady Stoeffler with a double to center had the only 3 hits for the Royals in Game 1. Game 2 vs. Nevada 1- This also was a pitchers duel but one where the Royals jumped out to the lead and strong defense and pitching sealed the win. Wayne Beard lead-off the game with a triple to center field and Garret Tiarks' RBI single plated Wayne for an early 1-0 lead. These were the only 2 hits the Royals mustered on the night but because of their defense and pitching it was enough. In the bottom of the first Grant Tiarks took the mound and first game jitters and lack of control quickly found himself with the bases loaded and no one out. Grant gathered himself and struck out the next 2 batters on eight pitches, he then induced a high flyball to center field that Garret Tiarks made a running catch on and the Royals had quashed the threat. Grant pitched 2 innings struck out 3 and allowed 0 earned runs in 2 innings of work, Hunter Beard came on in relief in the third, striking out the first batter he saw and inducing 2 groundouts in the next 3 batters on nice fielding by the Royals. Brady Stoeffler earned the save as he came on in the 4th getting 2 quick strikeouts and then making the play on a comebacker with a throw to first to end the game. All in all it was a good couple of first games and as is the case usually for this age, hitting in a live game against live pitching is a struggle early in the year.
