It was an great Flag Football season for the kids from Colo Nesco as both teams played very well and both improved throughout the year. As a combined team the Vikings and Chiefs should make for a strong athletic foundation to continue building on the success of the High School program in the coming years. Players and parents should take pride in the success of the teams and continue to realize that when we play as a team, not as individuals, we can compete with any school. Football is the ultimate team game and any team working together and striving towards a common goal can achieve success on the football field. Thanks to all parents and players with a special thank you to all the other coaches
on a great year!! Thank you also to Lauri Dodd for the wonderful pictures and to my wife, Amber for all the sideline report keeping, tolerance of football equipment in the dining room, and logistical coordination work she does to keep everything somewhat organized and running smoothly. See everyone in winter sports (right?) Basketball and wrestling forms are available on this site and should have been sent home from school. Make sure to get them in before the deadline so we can make sure we get started on-time with practices.

Vikings end year with Win/Loss?
The Vikings ended the year with a little controversy over whether they won or lost. No one is quite sure of how the game ended score-wise on the Vikings final game against the Packers but it was obviously a battle all the way through. Coaches recap seem to indicate the Vikings probably won as they scored 4 touchdowns on the night to the Packers 3 but extra points for 2 or 1 point and safeties (not sure how many) may have swung the score the other way. With no sideline report we will have to leave it at that. The Vikings end a successful year at 2-2 and made great strides as the year went along. This group combined with the other Colo Nesco team should provide for a great team to keep the emerging Colo Nesco Football program well stocked with athletes for years to come. Congratulations to Coaches Dennis Clatt, Joel Niemeyer, and Marlin Beard as well as the entire Vikings team on a great season.

Chiefs lose first game to Packers 14-19
On what can only be described as a miserable night football, the Chiefs lost their first game of the season after running out of time in a late comeback attempt. Nearly 2 inches of rain all day completely soaked the fields and footing was treacherous at best and with the ball completely soaked the Chiefs passing game struggled to move the ball consistently down the field. However a heroic comeback in the second half offensively and a stingy defense almost allowed the Chiefs to pull out the game in the end, finally running out of time as they were driving for the go ahead score. The Game: The Chiefs started on defense, Packers ball: 1st - Brady Stoeffler with the stop after a short gain, 2nd - Alex Good with a stop behind the line of scrimmage for a loss, 3rd - incomplete pass, 4th - incomplete pass, Chiefs Ball: 1st - Reverse to Garret Tiarks gained 4 yds., 2nd - Pass intended for Parker Eley incomplete, 3rd - Pass complete to Garret Tiarks for gain of 11 yds., 4th - reverse to Parker Eley who threw to Garret Tiarks incomplete as ball was batted away. Packers ball: 1st - TJ Deahl on stop for short gain, 2nd - Alex Good with stop as runner slipped trying to avoid flag pull, 3rd - #85 Sellberg scored on reverse for TD, PAT was intercepted by Nic Price, score 0-13 Packers. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Brady Stoeffler gained 10 yds on zig-zagging run through th defense, 2nd - bad snap because of wet ball fell to ground, 3rd - Pass from Brady Stoeffler to Parker Eley deflected for incomplete, 4th - Garret Tiarks on fake reverse gained 14 yds. one yard short of 1st down. Packers Ball : 1st - Alex Good on stop after short gain, 2nd - Dropped snap, 3rd - Pass complete for short gain stopped by Brady Stoeffler, 4th - run by #85 again for TD, PAT intercepted and run back for one point by Brady Stoeffler, score 1-19 Packers Ball : 1st - incomplete pass, 2nd - run by Parker Eley for short gain of 3 yds., 3rd - Gavin Fredregill on handoff for short gain of 2 yds. 4th - incomplete pass HALFTIME: Chiefs Ball : 1st - incomplete pass to TJ Deahl who saved an interception by knocking the ball away from the defender, 2nd - TJ Deahl with short gain on run of 2 yds. 3rd - Alex Good with end around for long gain of 30 yds and 1st down, 1st - Brady Stoeffler with nice pass to Alex Good after Brady looked off the safety with his eyes and then came back to a wide open Alex Good for the TD, PAT no good, Score 7-19, Packers Ball: 1st - Good pressure from Garret Tiarks turned runner right into waiting arms of Grant Tiarks for loss of 1 yd. , 2nd - Clayton Bryan with stop for short gain of 1 yd., 3rd - Again good pressure by Garret Tiarks caused QB to throw incomplete, 4th - Garret Tiarks on stop of reverse for loss of 2 yds. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Kevin Hapes with run for short gain on right side of 2 yds. , 2nd - Brady Stoeffler with run for short gain of 1 yd., 3rd - Alex Good with end around for 40 yds. stopped just short of TD, 1st - incomplete pass intended for TJ Deahl, 2nd - Alex Good on run for no gain, 3rd - Alex Good to Brady Stoeffler for TD pass, PAT no good, score 13-19, Packers Ball: 1st - flag on run for pulling on shirt (which should have been tucked in) 10yds. repeat 1st - Grant Tiarks with stop but not until after 1st down gained, 1st- offsides on Packers, 10yds back and repeat 1st down - Great hustle by Clayton Bryan to get flag of runner on end around, 2nd - Hustle by Garret Tiarks for stop for loss of 1 yd., 3rd - Brady Stoeffler saved a TD as he was the last defender to beat but made the play to stop the run., 4th ball batted down by Clayton Bryan almost into the hands of Gavin Fredregill. Chiefs Ball: 1st - Run by Connor Clark netted 5 yds., 2nd - incomplete pass, 3rd - incomplete pass, almost intercepted, 4th - Alex Good on reverse for no gain. Packers Ball: Things looked bleak for the Chiefs as only a minute or so remained and it looked like the Packers could just run out the clock but on 1st down Grant Tiarks made a great hustle play to stop the runner in the endzone for a Chiefs Safety and a score of 15-19. It also gave the Chiefs the ball back who called timeout with :49 seconds remaining 1st - Brady Stoeffler complete to Alex Good for short gain, 2nd - Brady hand off to Alex Good on reverse who then threw back to Brady Stoeffler who had the extrenmely wet ball slipp through his soaked hands. 3rd - Brady Stoeffler to TJ Deahl/ALex Good who both came down with the ball for a first down but flags were pulled immediately, and with time quickly running out the Chiefs ran to the line to get a final play off that fell harmlessly to the turf slipping out of both the center and QB's hand. Time over. Final Chiefs 15- Packers 19
It was a valiant comeback for the Chiefs who had spotted the Packers a 3 TD lead all achieved by one very fast runner on the Packers who had the added advantage of an extremely wet field that left the Chiefs defenders slipping and sliding in the first half. The Chiefs should be proud of the way they never gave up and never lost hope and know that with a little more time on the clock they would have driven for the winning score. Chiefs final game is on Tuesday, October 14th at 7:15
