3rd & 4th Baseball lose heartbreaker 1-0
The rainy weather finally broke and allowed the first game of the year to be played for 3rd & 4th Grade Baseball. Nesco Royals played Collins Maxwell 1 in Maxwell on Thursday Night, unfortunately the Royals fell with a disheartening 1-0 loss. Pitching set the tone for the night as Peyton Larsen pitched 2 very strong innings to start the game allowing just 4 batters in the first and 3 in second striking out 5 of them. The Royals made a 2-out rally in the top of the 1st and loaded the bases only to just miss on getting the big hit they needed to plate the runs. CM1 brought in their ace pitcher for the remaining 3 innings and held the Royal batters in check scattering hits to avoid any real threat. The lone run came for CM1 in the third when a coach-pitched batter hit a single to plate a runner from second with 2 outs. Grant Tiarks and Ben Pepper in their first-ever pitching experiences pitched well and got the first 2 outs in the 3rd before the run was scored. Alex Good was brought in after the run had scored to keep the game at that score and struck out the only batter he faced on 3 pitches. Alex stayed in the game for the final innings and struck out 3 of the next 4 batters he faced. While the Royals were not happy with the loss they are encouraged by their pitching and defense and just need some timely hitting to make for a better outcome next time.
